Internships

Job Description: New Hampshire for Health Care is looking for motivated, organized and dedicated individuals to assist in a grassroots educational campaign to raise the national voice on health care around the November elections. Interns will assist the staff in organizing “Health Care Voters” to participate in neighbor-to-neighbor programs, Lobby Days, electoral education, press opportunities, phone-banks,
canvasses, voter contact, and other grass roots campaign tactics. Interns will be given significant leadership opportunities and be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and flexibility in a fast-paced campaign setting.

Field Organizing Interns
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work directly with the Field Director to establish personal goals and leadership areas.
  • Assist in targeted voter outreach to build our core of “health care voters” through activities including events, canvassing and phone-banking, as well as volunteer recruitment and development.
  • Manage volunteers in various parts of the region.
  • Assist and/or organize actions, rallies, etc. on specific health care issues.
  • Provide overall assistance with administration of program.

Communications Intern
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work directly with the Communications Coordinator to establish personal goals and leadership areas.
  • Coordinate letters-to-the-editor program.
  • Monitor news and produce daily press clips to be distributed to state and national staff.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing press releases, website content, and member communications on health care.
  • Pursue online organizing through social networking sites, including You Tube.
  • Help coordinate schedule for direct mail, newspaper ads, etc.
  • Generate content for Web site.
  • Assist and/or organize press conferences, rallies, etc. on specific health care issues.
  • Provide overall assistance with administration of program.

Special Skills: Strong writing skills are required.

Documentary Film Intern
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work directly with Communications Coordinator to establish personal goals
  • Coordinate with Field Organizers to identify potential subjects.
  • Conduct pre-interviews with potential subjects.
  • Videotape subjects telling their health care story.
  • Utilize video editing software to create production quality 2- 5 minute short films for distribution online showcasing first person narratives of average New Hampshire residents confronting the national health care crisis.

General Qualifications

  • Candidate should be a motivated self-starter with an interest in and commitment to quality, affordable health care for everyone.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills and style.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends depending on campaign opportunities.
  • Good organization and the ability to juggle several tasks while making and meeting deadlines.
  • Must commit at least 10-20 hours per week.
  • A car is required.

Internships are unpaid, but interns are given the opportunity to work as part of a state-wide campaign and gain significant skills and leadership experience.
